I like that I can get more performance, but I don't necessarily want an anemic environment for when things go wrong. Production machines are often pretty barebones to begin with - making investigating issues often feel like working through a key-hole.
- rwmj 3y agoUKL (https://github.com/unikernelLinux/ https://github.com/unikernelLinux/) is a sort of best of both worlds, because it's still ordinary Linux so you can run a userspace.
- Beretta_Vexee 3y agoWhen I look at the documentation, apart from syslog there really isn't much. Administration, deployment and testing must be hell.
- Twirrim 3y agoI'd be curious how much performance this might bring vs, say, a Linux kernel with an application loaded direct from initramfs. It's not terribly complicated to build a single-purpose initramfs. There's a lot that an operating system brings to the table, that casual users may not be aware of. They tend to have a bunch in them not because "why not" but because it's providing value.
