I've been thinking recently that our understanding of the world dictates and leads what we do and what we think is possible.
If we think back to the mechanical age, where machinery first started replacing humans, weren't most humans involved in mechanical jobs? I believe we mostly saw ourselves as mechanical objects, sure we had thought, but for most people, their livelihood was not defined by their thoughts, but by their mechanical output. Of course machinery replacing them would be seen as a huge threat.
Now in the information age, we have designed machines that think along side us, and so we move from thinking machines to....
Well, I don't know, I guess that's what I'm asking here.
I work in the health space, and for me it is quite apparent that we once treated our bodies mechanically, then electrically, and now we treat them as information (altering DNA, folding proteins, etc).
