Just as the working definition of "gender" has proved to be far more pliable that ever dreamt until recently, so, too, perhaps "history" can be cheerfully reinvented to suit the ideological whims of an age? I personally look forward to imaging the philosopher Zhuangzi as Adam Smith. The deep paradoxes of economics ("greed cumulates to the public good") hearken to the wildly shifting perspectives of Daoism.
