I would disagree. The Piazza dei miracoli (where the tower is) is genuinely amazing[1]. The duomo is really beautiful. You can see the actual incense lamp that inspired Galileo to formulate the theory about the motion of pendulums. The church of san stefano[2] is pretty cool.
