I think you are overall correct that the iOS store does improve the experience of the elder. But I suspect it's more due to the lack of 'side loading' and locked user experience and less so do to do with apple inspection/code review. I have no evidence to support this. My original question was a request for hard evidence which I think is lacking in arguments of security and safety. I think I've seen an equal amount of press surrounding fake and useless apps on both android and apple platforms. But this is purely observational.
