Failing to meet investors hype would be the biggest reason in my book.
Also it seems like training and running these systems is incredibly costly and the prices AI companies charge for their products are being subsidized by investor money, which won't last forever.
- steve_adams_86 3y agoGood point. I've wondered about costs becoming prohibitive. However, I've seen impressive optimization of some models where compute requirements are reduced by orders of magnitude. I'm not sure if these accomplishments will be transferrable to all expensive AI use cases, though. If we were to pay for the actual costs at this point, I do wonder how many people would consider it worth the expense. But I wonder, how much should ChatGPT cost, for example?
- ipaddr 3y agoThe investor money running out is a likely outcome which will push ai prices higher and change who uses it.
