The article has picked a point in time, and called that the "Reddit culture" (subversive iconoclasts). Cultures, of course, change, and businesses adapt to those changes. The iconoclasts have, presumably, served their purpose by growing engagement on the site, and Reddit is moving on, as companies often do.
- belter 3y agoExcept those iconoclasts, who work for free, help built the site and make it what it is . The only way Reddit will become profitable, will be by selling their users data. It can quickly become a repetition of the Twitter -> X story, a study case in Brand destruction.
- jkic47 3y agoI don't dispute that in the least. I find that when people have a passion for something, they work for less. An example is post-docs or artists - they sometimes do this for the sheer joy of doing it, and businesses tend to exploit that. The investors will milk it for what they can, then cash out, and, if Reddit ceases to be, similar to Twitter/X, c'est la vie...
