This happened to me in my Nissan Leaf not long ago. In my case, the brakes would momentarily fail after starting the vehicle before "catching". I took it to the dealership and they replaced the 12V battery. The problem has not occurred since. Definitely a scary experience to have your brakes fail, even for a second and at low speeds.
