How do we know that English "much" and Spanish "mucho" are not related?
- timonoko 3y agoSounds just a little bit stupid. On that note: Finnish "moni" and Middle English "moni" mean the same ie "many". According to Wiktionary they are not related in any way.
- cc101 3y agoAccording to the Oxford English Dictionary (OED), "much" derives from Old High German and/or Old Norse with a reference to Greek. There are scholars who trace language written example by written example back a thousand years or more. Try browsing the OED some day. It's fascinating. "Mucho" is likely derived from Latin, but I have no actual information on that.
