First off, there's two different kinds: in young people and in old people (known as age-related or late-onset essential tremor). It's the same disorder but evidently different etiologies.
Personally I believe it will be cured with gene editing someday.
Also, it was already known that age-related essential tremor increases your risk of dementia.
