As depressing as that is, we've had that particular millstone around our neck for a couple of millennia now. The major religion in the West for the past two thousand years teaches the concept of original sin and goes on about how we're inherently bad, in need of saving, wealth is bad, etc. Now we have a lighter version of that with this new wave of secular anti-humanism. At least there is some slow, grinding progress. Interestingly, Nietzsche predicted all of this in the Genealogy of Morality.
