- 3-cheese-sundae 3y agoMy search engine works great. I just have to pay for it. And for the amount my career depends on being able to find information online, it’s not hard to justify $10/month for a search engine that actually respects my queries to avoid SEO garbage sites.

- mingus88 3y agoThat’s conspiracy level thinking. Personally, I see parallels between the decline of search quality to the fall of Google as a place where every engineer dreamed of working to where they are now. It’s enshittification. Take something great and squeeze every last penny out of it. It’s everywhere today from Boeing to journalism. Google used to be ahead of the game against SEO scammers but those dedicated people have left. Ads are the business now. Also there just aren’t that many quality sites left to index compared to the days before social media doomscrolling became super profitable. All the content is walled up. So naturally search results suffer from that side too.
- HonestOp001 3y agoGoogle had a long running joke on their website where if you searched for idiot in the White House under the Bush 2 regime, the first response was Bush. People thought it was funny, others complained and nothing was done. When the Obama regime came in, it was fixed within days. That was the start of the google not being apolitical internally. Since then, it has been going downhill because they constantly break their algorithm for whatever they are into this week.
