Google or duck duck for “redwood shallow roots” and you get the shitty “repeat the phrase you are looking for while saying “come let’s us discover” and that actual facts buried down the bottom if ever
All this because time on page and time before returning to index page is more important now than actually having information on the page readily accessible
This is both why Wikipedia is great and why an LLm that answers the fucking question in the first paragraph is a strategic threat to google
Google killed Yahoo because banner ads were too profitable for Yahoo to give up - even pg wondered around Yahoo trying to convince them.
- Terr_ 3y agoI empathize with your annoyance and sympathize with your goals, but but submitting a direct URL to the crap (even with a comment) just... isn't very practical. A significant number of people won't see your comment first/at-all, turning it into a net-negative to the HN experience. It's better to link to a blogpost or something which does the necessary introduction and critique.

- s1artibartfast 3y agoI thought the article thing was pretty funny, although I couldnt make it more than half way. I kinda disagree about llm utility, given that this is the quality I typically expect. Ask anything you are familiar with and you end up with a Gell-Mann Amnesia Effect
