Maybe the very availability of short stays. You looked for a stay before AirBnB, didn't find one, didn't go. You look for a stay post AirBnB, always find one, go. This is true especially for tourists (in combo with low cost flights) but it opens up opportunities also for workers that didn't have the same flexibly of movement and/or couldn't make the cost of a stay fit into what they get for their services.
