This is a bizarre take. We hear nothing from the board. Obviously, they are waiting for the lawyers. Meanwhile, everyone else is leaking like crazy. It's a power play, but it appears defensive.
- gwern 3y agoYour take is the bizarre one. Who is 'the board'? Who is 'they' and why should they wait for the lawyers? There's at least 2 factions on the temporary board, an unknown successor board, and the old board had at least 2 factions with people moving between it over 2023 as well as leaving the board, with 1 person (Adam D'Angelo) still on it. In any case, if you think my take about Altman winning is 'bizarre', I have bad breaking news for you: https://www.theinformation.com/articles/sam-altman-to-return-to-openai-board-of-directors https://www.theinformation.com/articles/sam-altman-to-return...
- baking 3y agoI'm not seeing an "Altman plurality" on the new board.
- gwern 3y agoThis is a very sloppy comment. How do you know that about 'the new board', exactly? Are you already an expert on these 3 women and know their background and all possible connections to Altman? I doubt it. (I'm not.) They could be an Altman plurality already for all you or I know. And which 'new board' not having an Altman plurality are we talking about, exactly? You're not seeing 'the new board' - you're seeing the announcement of some expansion. The 3 women & Altman are not the entirety of the new board. (For example, Brockman seems likely to be reinstated in the followup appointments. I'm also curious if the MS observer is still going to be there.)
