I was surprised to learn that the formal name for forward slash (/) (or just slash) is virgule. And the word virgule brought back memories of studying French; apparently this is the French word for comma! Which makes me think the formal name for slash in French is NOT virgule. And then a Google search revealed that according to Collins dictionary, the following are also used in lieu of slash: "diagonal, separatrix, shilling mark, slant, slash, solidus ; especially British, stroke".
