I suppose it's dreaming, but it sure would be nice if all the messaging services used the same protocol. Depending on who I'm talking to, I have to use Signal, WhatsApp, Threema, or something else. Some people get downright religious about their choice. Oh, plus (since Signal dropped support) basic SMS for the hoi polloi. Having multiple apps installed for the same basic functionality is annoying at best, and at worst its own kind of security risk. Unfortunately, Meta will make their interoperability only barely good enough. They will undoubtedly make it annoying, in an attempt to persuade people to install WhatsApp instead of using anything else.
