I’d prefer zero screens in a car. Analog all the way. Feels better and looks better. Analog dials and counters and switches and buttons can be art if done well

- adastra22 3y agoI like having a satnav screen.
- andrewstuart 3y agoNup. Satnav must be analog too.
- ahartmetz 3y agoWe have the technology ;) https://rochesteravionicarchives.co.uk/collection/navigation-inertial/combined-radar-and-projected-map-display https://rochesteravionicarchives.co.uk/collection/navigation... https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moving_map_display https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moving_map_display
- lagrange77 3y agoFor me not zero screens, but multiple small special purpose ones (w/o touch), besides lots of physical buttons. Ideally my car should look like a space shuttle cockpit.
- KptMarchewa 3y agoYou'll get this one: https://pbs.twimg.com/media/EZCyJGYXYAcxLjV?format=jpg&name=large https://pbs.twimg.com/media/EZCyJGYXYAcxLjV?format=jpg&name=...
- JR1427 3y agoIt looks like the set of a 2000's kids TV programme.
- benj111 3y agoWell I'd like to know what radio station or cd track is playing.
- acheron 3y agoRegulations require backup cameras now, so you’re not going to get it.
- Kon-Peki 3y agoA goofy combination of mirrors would satisfy the regulations, so it's possible!
- CoastalCoder 3y agoI find my 2012 Civic's digital speedometer more readable than mechanical needle. Also FWIW, audio settings might be easier with a display, just because of how many useful parameters there are. Also, I like my CX-9's display for navigation maps. But touchscreens for the driver are just a terrible idea.
- arethuza 3y agoTouchscreens for some things (navigation, rarely accessed configuration) are fine but they absolutely should not be required for basic driving tasks or while driving.
- CoastalCoder 3y agoMy CX-9 has a combined dial + joystick for navigating the menus / navigation system. It's located on the center console. I doubt the driver should ever be working that display while driving. But I do find that controller more comfortable than reaching my hand out to the touch-screen display. Maybe that's just a quirk of my physiology.
- ahartmetz 3y agoIt's everyone. Same reasons why mice are much less tiring to use than large touchscreens.
- CoastalCoder 3y agoDoesn't hurt that mice are furry and adorable.
