I use Firefox, uBlock Origin and the annoyances filters. The internet feels just as smooth. I visited the US and it took me a few months to stop receiving spam from businesses I interacted with. There were ads at the petrol pumps and in the bathrooms and basically everywhere else. There was little concept of consent wrt advertising and data collection, something I've come to take for granted. It wasn't as bad as I make it, but it shows how our priorities might differ.
