I think a better question is why do so many Americans identify so strongly with Israel despite it not being a Christian country. Palestinians being mostly Muslim and non-white is negative for their image in the US no doubt. They're not even African American. If there were more news about white Christian children being killed there would be slightly more sympathy. Even then I'm not sure.
