"Leading the way" doesn't mean that other contributors have no value whatsoever. Leaders can still learn from new/other perspectives, and non-leaders can still have good ideas. It is obviously valuable to have quick/inside access to new and promising perspectives. And sometimes those ideas are going to come from the other 50% of contributors.
