I know of no other fields (correct me if I'm wrong) with multiple employers hiring many people at > $150K/year less than 5 years out of college. That leads to an enormous number of applicants (Google gets > 3 million per year), and the necessity of stringent gatekeeping. Any hiring process in big tech will by design drop at least 95% of applicants.
- game_the0ry 3y agoThis is a valid problem to point out, but white board does not solve this problem. In fact it may be causing more noise than signal, resulting in candidates passing hiring committee + receiving offer, then spending many months in the team matching phase, bc no candidates don't meet skill + exp fit with teams that have openings. [1] That plus high short term attrition makes for a busted hiring process.
