You may have a point with regard to this article though, as the author uses professional dishwasher rinse aid and detergent without real knowledge of what is happening. If you don't notice any difference when using rince aid, you may have very soft water. On many dishwashers (not sure about Bob), you are supposed to adjust the amount of rinse aid being used depending on your water hardness level, and for very soft water, it may very well be zero.
