Isn't fake everything on the rise, because that's OpenAI's business model?

  The question is why is a community supposedly dedicated to truth and quality of information falling victim to this? The likely answer is what we're all expecting, the publish or perish culture put in place by major publishing houses and the pressure that puts on academics to maintain their livelihoods will cause some to cave under the pressure and pursue darker paths, and this is just another marker of that.

    The “publish or perish” culture has been put in place by academics themselves, the major publishers are just beneficiaries of that.
