The Mammoth didn't go extinct because we over hunted it, or destroyed the habitat in which it lived. It went extinct because nature selected it to go extinct.

The Mammoth didn't go extinct because we over hunted it, or destroyed the habitat in which it lived. It went extinct because nature selected it to go extinct. This process is THE thesis of Darwinism. The abject hubris of these scientists continues to astound me.
At best what happens if we manage to resurrect these creatures? They get to exist in an environment which is completely different than the ones they were designed for. At worst they become curiosities in a zoo to be poked and prodded their entire existence.
- ZunarJ5 3y agoActually there's increasing evidence that we are the cause of their demise. https://www.nytimes.com/2023/08/17/science/climate-paleontology-mammals.html https://www.nytimes.com/2023/08/17/science/climate-paleontol... We want to bring them back as hybrids as they're excellent for carbon sequestration at glacial limits. It's basically part of rewilding attempts to slow and mitigate the velocity of our current crisis. They'll likely be a hybrid with modern elephants. https://www.independent.co.uk/climate-change/news/wildfires-grasslands-mammoth-bison-horses-b1964404.html https://www.independent.co.uk/climate-change/news/wildfires-...
