In some cases, relations are made of many different tiny ways, that are then stitched together to form the outline of an area. My geometry component doesn't like that very much. I've been out of the scene a long time, but the above reminds me of similar problems we faced in geospatial circles 10-20 years ago, manipulating data and topology to work with visualisation. Large complex common areas like roadways and footpaths were indeed an annoyance then, too. Which is a preface to my wondering how the issue will be approached here.
