Is it certain that those stones in Pompeii are a crosswalk? I was taught that they were a traffic-calming measure.
- NegativeLatency 3y agoLooks like both to me, a proto raised intersection crossing. Sends a pretty clear message that this is space for people to walk. (I'm not taking a side in this argument, just trying to imagine what it would be like to use that crossing)
- zip1234 3y agoYes, I heard it was also in part because the road was often muddy so it allowed pedestrians to stay out of the mud.
