The quality of life for a planet with 1B total population would be much better than for 7B or 8B. More clean water, air, food, better views, less crowded beaches, more lithium, copper and oil available per person, etc. Allow those who are willing to not crowd it all up to have a fun and positive life, reduce the population without war? Should be a no-brainer. Although, note that this was specifically about Jewish religious tradition. That demographic group is feeling pressure, and has strong feelings of group survival.
