Nvidia R550 Linux Driver's Open Kernel Modules Performing Well on GeForce GPUs
- declaredapple 3y agoDo these completely replace the nvidia drivers? Do they support DLSS 3 by chance? For some reason nvidia never released support for dlss 3/3.5 unless I missed it.
- PlutoIsAPlanet 3y agoThe userland GL/Vulkan driver is still the same closed blob. In the kernel driver the difference between the open and closed, is that the open driver has ripped out a chunk of its functionality that on newer nvidia GPUs has been moved to an on-gpu processor (e.g. power management etc).
- omneity 3y agoI wish this was ported to macos as well to enable eGPU setups. The last compatible driver predates the first RTX series.
- jsheard 3y agoDo the interfaces for third party GPU drivers even still exist on the ARM version of macOS? The discrete GPU support that Intel Macs had was officially scrapped in the ARM transition, so that driver infrastructure is dead weight as far as Apple is concerned.
- zamadatix 3y agoEven if it was fully supported on the software stack there are hardware limitations in Apple Silicon that make eGPU impractical from a performance perspective https://www.reddit.com/r/AsahiLinux/comments/132nxv4/comment/ji643h1/ https://www.reddit.com/r/AsahiLinux/comments/132nxv4/comment...
- brokenmachine 3y agoI wish Apple didn't artificially limit functionality to exploit their users, but here we are.
