Elon Musk's antics have been utterly shameless.
a) If he cared at all about altruism, humanity etc he would open-source Grok and allow anyone access to the Twitter dataset.
b) He talks all about AGI in relation to Tesla but then used it as a weapon to try and extract more control over the company from investors.
- bamboozled 3y agoI don't really understand this view honestly, why should Grok be open sourced? When was Twitter called OpenTwitter and had a similar mission statement to OpenAI?
- glenngillen 3y agoThe parent post said if “Musk” cared, not Twitter. He also doesn’t have anything in the way of public shareholders to appease at Twitter anymore. Whether or not it’s a reasonable expectation is up for debate. But it is at least a congruent argument.
- bamboozled 3y agoThere’s a difference between developing and open sourcing models and technology and end user products though.
- threeseed 3y agoIf Musk wants to take the high moral ground and lecture others about openness and the importance to humanity he should start with his own actions. It seems pretty clear that altruism is a cynical marketing and PR technique for him rather than something he actually cares about.
- xcv123 3y agoMusk cofounded and funded OpenAI.
- threeseed 3y agoAnd then pushed them to create a for-profit entity and merge with Tesla.
- bamboozled 3y agoNot a gian Musk fan lately, but this is true, it wouldn't even be a thing without him. Once bitten twice shy.

- treme 3y agoah yes, he should be shamed for being a major force behind accelerating adoption of eletric cars by a few years minimum.
- danans 3y agoHe's being shamed for being a loud hypocrite about OpenAI, not for his accomplishments pushing the mass adoption of EVs. Two different things.
