Seems very down-talking and full of itself, but the gist is that Apple
will apply even more scrutiny to "alternative apps" within the already
mandatory "Apple Developer Program".
While begrudgingly allowing "alternative apps", Apple will still
decide whether they are 'good for you' in every conceivable regard.
Interesting repeated emphasis on "physical harm".
Maybe it's nice that Apple provide a refuge for the technologically
bewildered and stand themselves up as moral guardians. However, my
objection is that they deliberately muddy the water by conflating
privacy, safety and security.
What Apple is actually offering is explicitly none of these things.
It is providing protection (and uses this word interchangeably with
all of the above throughout the document)
They are not the same. Confusing security with protection violates
what I call "Ensler security" (see Security is Love [0]). Without the
condition of self-determination "protection" becomes the foundation
for abuse.
