You would imagine that the Smithsonian Magazine would make an uncluttered website and not bombard me with a clickjacking list of other articles, an autoplay video, a prompt to allow notifications, and, if that wasn't enough, a Jiffy Lube ad encompassing the entire page. I didn't even mention the ads filling the entire right side on top of the interrupting ads appearing between paragraphs. What a complete clusterfuck.
- Loughla 3y agoI didn't have any of that. Just an article. A very small subscribe button at the top, and a list of related articles after, but otherwise just an article
- 01HNNWZ0MV43FF 3y agoThat's what I got too. As an experiment, I then told NoScript to temporarily allow all the scripts I hadn't explicitly blocked. Then those scripts loaded more scripts, so I allowed those. And those scripts loaded more scripts. At some point I replicated GP's experience - What a mess. It's funny to me when people on HN say you have to have JS enabled by default to be "modern". Ha, no I don't.
