Youngest person confirmed to have been hanged was Michael Hamond, aged seven
- politelemon 3y ago> The youngest person confirmed to have been hanged in England was Michael Hamond, aged just seven. He was hanged in King's Lynn, Norfolk, next to his sister Ann, who was 11 at the time. Their crime is unknown. In December 1888 Samuel Crowther entered the record books as the oldest man to be hanged, at 71 years old.
- dotcoma 3y agoIn spite of it all, we’ve come a long way from hanging 6 year old kids.
- reify 3y agoWe have not come that far. Maybe not so different in the USA as they still execute people, even people who eventually are deemed innocent. Here in the UK not a lot has changed. Though we no longer hang or execute people. We have reduced the age of criminal responsibilty to 10 years old, the lowest age in the whole of Europe. So those aged 10 years old can and will be tried for murder and other crimes. Can anyone remember being 10 years old? Can a 10 year old really tell the difference between right and wrong? Does the developmental age of a child have any effect on their decision making? For me being a retired psychotherapist, No they cannot tell the difference between right and wrong using rules invented by and for adults. The criminal Justice system has never served anyone but the powerful. The criminal justice system is inherently built on manipulation of the innocent and manipulation of the law. If it was not, there would be no miscarriages of justice or wrongly convicted. Who does the incarceration of human beings really serve? Who does the death penalty really serve?
