What are the potential downsides to police oversight?
> But, if asked, they provide a form letter written by ShotSpotter. Their contract prohibits the disclosure of any actual data.
A potentially dystopian surveillance apparatus is installed citywide, and the police can't discuss about it's efficiency because the company that sold it to them won't let them?
- nerdponx 3y agoSome bumbling police chief might say something stupid that would draw media attention to ShotSpotter and their massive data collection operation. You definitely wouldn't want that to happen.
- TaylorAlexander 3y agoThe police know what’s good for them. They have extraordinary powers and the more they can keep the public in the dark about what they do, the more freedom they have to act with impunity.
