Would it really ruin the climbing experience if the 5.12b route you are attempting happens to have an accessible option within view? I am neither a climber nor someone who would use a via ferrata, but I do see parallels to my mountain biking hobby here, where skilled riders (and more often "expert beginner" types) are threatened when newbie-friendly trails are created.
