Linux Compatible Audio Interfaces
- gentleman11 3y agoI just bought a zoom h6 to act as an audio interface for a summer project. Not the best preamps, but a lot cheaper than dedicated interface, portable, and comes with stereo mics. It never occurred to me there might be a proprietary interface or lack of driver support on Linux. For some reason, I just assumed there was some standardized hardware/software interface because… the audio world seems more serious and less nonsensical than the software one I guess, at least from my early impressions of it Edit: the h6 does appear to work on Linux, according to Reddit . The audio world continues to impress
- Venn1 3y agoMost USB / FireWire interfaces will play and record audio without additional work. Interfaces with DSP or internal mixers require additional software. The same goes for PCIe.
- jdboyd 3y agoHaving audio gear work on linux continues not be be a given, but it is a lot better than it was in the firewire and early USB2 days. On the firewire side, the devices that worked under linux still work under linux while those some devices tend not to have the ability to work on current macs and windows machines. That makes them really cheap, often (but RME stuff defies that).
