- cratermoon 3y agoConsider the messenger. Who would be the audience for a Wall Street Journal article asserting that Covid-19 is now "just a flu"? Further, why would the CDC adjust the guidelines the way they've done?
- voidwtf 3y agoThis is my layman's perspective, but it seemed bound to happen. The biggest risk from covid when it was novel appeared to be mass susceptibility and causing overflow in treatment centers and hospitals. Now it seems enough people's immune systems have developed to the point where it won't be as viral in the general population reducing spread and impact. I'm glad vaccines were available to ease us to this point.
- crq-yml 3y agoThe CDC has proven themselves willing to lie repeatedly to manage the narrative around Covid politically. Long Covid has had a large and continuing impact. The virus has not changed. In fact it had its second largest season this winter, just going by the CDC's own wastewater data graph: https://covid.cdc.gov/covid-data-tracker/#wastewater-surveillance https://covid.cdc.gov/covid-data-tracker/#wastewater-surveil... In light of that, desire to normalize fewer precautions is a way of saying "the weak shall perish" and blaming victims of the virus instead of shouldering any responsibility for them.
- deprecative 3y agoCOVID taught the CDC that nobody gives any shits about what they have to say. Everyone immediately ignored them during the early days of COVID. Now they serve the public by allowing unrestricted economic activity.
