Interesting how foxes were already considered tricksters in the 2nd century AD.
- sdwr 3y agoFoxes aren't considered tricksters, they are. Those are weasel words used by history writers to avoid having to say anything. They are solitary, can't take any other predator in a fight, and have a cry that sounds like a child in distress. It's not some arbitrary symbolic meaning assigned to the creature, it's their essence understood from a human perspective.
- crtasm 3y agoI don't see that solitary animal + can't defend itself == sly trickster. That'd apply to many others too? But I've not heard foxes in the UK make a sound like you describe.
