It's that most wonderful time of the year when tech cannot handle the date
- denysvitali 3y ago> Many locations closed their pumps for the duration, though in-house solutions like Waitomo's app worked just fine, presumably because they are professionally coded to deal with February 29 appropriately. Thanks god the other pumps weren't "professionally coded"
- the_sleaze9 3y agoIf your fuel pump software doesn't handle leap year, no you should not be considered a professional. That's amateur work. > professional characterized by or conforming to the technical or ethical standards of a profession > amateur one lacking in experience and competence in an art or science
- bombcar 3y agoAmateur used to mean "one loving" which often meant paying attention to detail. And it sounds like the pumps worked fine, it was the billing software that went haywire. All the more reason to have fallbacks like cash.
- JohnFen 3y ago"Amateur" does not imply incompetence. It only means you're not getting paid. In any field, you will find amateurs who are better at the thing than most professionals, and you will find professionals who are worse at the thing than most amateurs.

- rad_gruchalski 3y ago> 28 in years that are multiples of four Unless it evenly divides by a 100 but not 400. To err is human.
- falserum 3y agoI liked how author wrote it. Especially this line :) > fast-tracked to insanity
