> On Tuesday, health minister Cho Kyoo-hong issued this threat amid the ongoing protests by approximately 9,000 junior doctors, who have been absent from their hospitals for eight days. They are opposing the government’s proposal to increase the medical school entry quota by 2,000 seats next year.

South Korea has one of the lowest doctor-to-patient ratios among major economies and recently the government proposed to add 2,000 slots to the current annual quota of 3,000 medical students.
So doctors stopped assisting patients to pressure the government into keeping an artificial scarcity that benefits them, and harms everybody else. That doesn't sound reasonable. They are forcing people to not work a job they would have desire to work otherwise, by colluding to artificially limit the number of students.
- elmerfud 3y agoA voluntary job is still voluntary even if someone wants to quit even if someone wants to strike. The choice is not to force them to work at the barrel of a gun. The people did want to work the job until the situation changed. Are you honestly arguing that when your job situation changes the government can force you to continue working it, because they need you to? That is the very definition of communism. Your personal choice is eliminated for the good of the collective.
