Can AMD fork HDMI, add in driver support, and call it their own standard that just so happens to be compatible with HDMI?
I'm sure they wouldn't make such a move lightly, but is there something fundamental here about the laws or specifications that prevents them from doing this?
- dvdkon 3y agoI think they could, simply by IP laws, but they have a contract with the HDMI Forum that probably doesn't allow that. They could cancel it (and reverse-engineer HDMI instead of going by the NDA'd spec), but I don't think they'd do that just for Linux support.
