This seems like a bigger deal that it looks like - this flat out kills the legitimacy of HDMI in my mind. There's no reason to keep it.

- baq 3y agoYou’re right but I don’t think tv manufacturers care.
- lallysingh 3y agoThere are lots of TV manufacturers to choose from, thankfully.
- olyjohn 3y agoWell if you find one that sells TVs with DisplayPorts, let us know.
- gorjusborg 3y agoWith all the garbage that comes on TVs now, this is just another reason to buy a monitor with an audio-out instead.
- shiroiushi 3y agoI've never heard of an affordable 65+" monitor.
- gorjusborg 3y agoI've never needed 65" TV :)
- baq 3y agoMe neither, then I got one, now I need one ;)
- shiroiushi 3y agoYep, same here. Not going back. I'm sure people said similar things when indoor bathrooms were a new thing, but there's always some luddite who says "we never needed those things before!"
- gorjusborg 3y agoEverything is a trade-off. The fact that you are comparing a larger television to having indoor plumbing shows a lack of perspective or good-faith argument on your part.
- shiroiushi 3y agoSounds like someone's butt-hurt that other people don't want to be stuck with 1980s technology.
- gorjusborg 3y agoThis thread shows pretty clearly who the emotionally imbalanced party is.
- account42 3y agoYou are the one making bad faith arguments by claiming that there is a customer choice here when you know full well that monitors with similar specs are more expensive and don't there aren't even any comparable options at the high end.
- gorjusborg 3y agoIt's not bad faith. I recognize the choice isn't palatable to the likes of many, but ultimately there is a choice being made. The choice of convenience and entertainment over principles of privacy and ownership. All I'm saying is that there are still choices, they aren't perfect.
- lallysingh 3y agoI searched "TV with displayport" and found a bunch..
- account42 3y agoI searched for "Unicorn" and also found a bunch. Doesn't mean I can actually get one not to mention one that is even remotely comparable to the HDMI TV I'd be replacing.
- Hamuko 3y agoHow many TV manufacturers actually use DisplayPort?
- whoopdedo 3y agoAre there? This seems to be one of those illusion of choice industries where the different brands are only relabeling of the same factory reference designs.
- akira2501 3y agoI remember when markets were considered through the will of consumers. I miss those days.
- harkinian 3y agoTo most consumers, DisplayPort is just "that thing that won't fit into my HDMI port for some reason." DP is royalty-free, but it seems like HDMI is cheaper to implement in the end because it's on every low-end device.
- simoncion 3y agoPart of that is certainly kickbacks and other preferential deals offered by the HDMI Consortium. It's certainly true that majority of TV manufacturers don't actually pay royalties/licensing fees to the Consortium.
