Full title is "How I'm Funded". Blog post is from a full-time OSS developer and how they sustain themselves with an overview of all income sources.

The original title is “How I’m funded”. I think the clickbait rules failed here. Perhaps change it back? @dang — fyi. @ushakov — you can overrule the clickbait filter after you submit, if you care to.

  I can't even think of a title that would still make sense with a prefixed "how" removed

    Often does it actually improve the title? I think the actual use case is stuff like "how I cross-compiled Eliza to the IBM 1401 using Zig", where it is a little cleaner without.

      I'm a fan in general too. Of course better is 'Cross-compiling Eliza to the IBM 1401 using Zig' or something, but removing a leading 'how' is a decent automatic fix. Also you can always edit your submission and put it back to whatever you originally submitted it as (or something different if it made you realise something that should be fixed) and it doesn't re-apply these rules; i.e. in this case I would've thought No the 'how' is actually meaningful here, and put it back.

He mentions it in the post, but most people will have come across Daniel via the Nuxt project, it is to Vue what Next is to React (opinionated configuration and directory layout, SSR, etc)

I think this is a nice contrast to the usual articles about OSS funding which are often along the lines of, "but I donate thousands of hours of my time to open source that ends up in big commercial products and cloud platforms, why won't anyone pay me for it?" I believe Daniel Stenberg (of curl fame) had a nice blog article on how he was able to transition to working on his open source projects full-time, but I'm unable to find it now.

It would be nice to see some numbers but this seems to suggest that GitHub sponsors on a project that is part of a larger project (nuxt is part of Vue?), that the sponsorship generates enough money to sustain both this developer and the founder of the nuxt github site. Maybe … maybe … there is a solution. Tidelift might become quite important in years to come
