Anecdata of one.
I have a very old Twitter account.
I visit x a few times for ~10 minutes each on most days. Engage with a few tens of EE/Hardware/Software folks. Follow and followed by ~750 people.
The ads and engagement farming posts are both annoying, but on balance the conversations tend to be good and the info tends to be informative.
My feeling is that it's better now than it was a year ago.
I haven't noticed an increase in bot-like conversations.
Possibly major factor:
I actively unfollow and often block anyone who shouts about political subjects as I'm generally not interested in those conversations online.
- bdjsiqoocwk 3y agoA) the plural of anecdote is anecdotes. This is English, not Latin. B) if you have a single anecdote, sure you should be using the singular...?
- tlb 3y agoThe OED approves of the GP's usage. https://www.oed.com/dictionary/anecdata_n?tl=true https://www.oed.com/dictionary/anecdata_n?tl=true
- bdjsiqoocwk 3y agoSure, next thing you're gonna tell me that bureaucracy X says the singular is anecdatum.
- andreygrehov 3y agoI think "anecdata" is a play on the words "anecdote" and "data" - an anecdote that includes supportive data.
- Izkata 3y agoIt is a combination of the two words, but the meaning is the other way around - they're throwing in their anecdote with everyone else's to build data.
- anymouse123456 3y agoI immediately concede that the word anecdata is annoying. But it was meant in terms of being an anecdote that might be accumulated with other anecdotes to perhaps (but probably not) be considered data.
