My dad died late last year and I inherited all of his self hosting projects. Thankfully I helped him set up pretty much all of them and they revolve around home automation and media management. This is why I refuse to touch “critical” things for self-hosting like email. If Home Assistant goes down then it’s not the end of the world. Physical switches still work and people can work around it. Same deal with a media server, it’s not the end of the world. Losing email/chat/photos IS the end of the world for a lot of people.
