- kragen 3y agoyour comment relies on the false premise that jokes cannot condemn things but in fact jokes very commonly condemn things; often they are the most powerful condemnation possible. jokes can express ideas, and the ideas they express can include condemnation; this is not changed by the fact that they are sometimes difficult to interpret because they express the ideas indirectly rather than directly your comment is incoherent in light of that fact

- kragen 3y agoyou're right, of course. i'm sorry. i did attempt to flag the comment first, to no apparent effect i'm somewhat mollified by his attempts to walk back his rhetoric, but i've lost about ten or fifteen friends to suicide because they had to be around people who consider autistic people and intellectuals subhuman, so i think it's important to answer people promoting that position with something more effective than simple inattention; what would you suggest? noticeably missing from his comment at https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=39553711 https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=39553711, however, is any attempt to distance himself from the idea (implicit in his previous comment) that people should not attempt lofty discussions, have super niche interests, and do other autistic things. he does say that he doesn't think that merits bullying, but his actions don't seem to be consistent with his words—he was clearly attempting to bully me. how do you integrate someone like that into a site which is, in theory, specifically focused on lofty discussions and super niche interests? from my point of view, at least, that seems to call for him not to participate further until he's shown clear and convincing evidence of having reformed also, would you mind unflagging my high-road comment at https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=39537205 https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=39537205?
- subjectsigma 3y agoHow would someone who is banned show “clear evidence of being reformed” if they can’t comment? Surely you don’t think an email is sufficient? How could you even tell it was genuine?
- pvg 3y agoBanned accounts can comment and banned users are often offered unbanning for repenting in email. https://hn.algolia.com/?dateRange=all&page=0&prefix=false&query=by%3Adang%20banned%20email%20&sort=byDate&type=comment https://hn.algolia.com/?dateRange=all&page=0&prefix=false&qu...
- dang 3y agoWhoa, you can't attack another user like this and we ban accounts that do. Please don't do it again. https://news.ycombinator.com/newsguidelines.html https://news.ycombinator.com/newsguidelines.html
