Experienced somethink like this once and it definitely added to the feeling of profound awe that comes with a total solar eclipse. Not sure it was exactly and solely this phenomenon though. It was a mostly rainy, overcast day, pressumably featuring multiple types of clouds. It may have been combined with an element of pure chance for the lower cloud layers.
