Tell HN: Every now and then, turn your adblocker off
It's good to occasionally get a frame of reference for how the average user has to experience the Internet.
- panqueca 3y agoincognito mode fills this purpose

- swman 3y agoIsn’t it kind of cringe to think these 90% or whatever totally oblivious people are why adtech companies continue to print billions of dollars?
- pesfandiar 3y agoWe should be grateful for that. If more people installed adblockers, they'd invest more in the arms race and render adblockers useless for us.
- solardev 3y agoWhen you're done with that, might as well cut your seat belts, rip up your condoms, and go for a smoke at the gas station. Or, knowing this crowd, maybe just open all your ports, drink some rainwater, fly in a Boeing, and sign in to Chrome. Live life to its fullest!
- KomoD 3y agoWhy?
- EA-3167 3y agoNo thanks, I don't periodically eat Velveeta on Wonderbread either, I know what I'm missing and I'm glad it isn't in my life.
- ActorNightly 3y agoMaybe this is just me, but a) I appreciate all the free shit I get that is ad supported, and b) am competent enough to to be affected by ads.
- simonblack 3y agoI suppose you also like a cluttered house. My biggest peeve with ads is that you have to search a page for the stuff you want. Much better to have a page which is all information with no extraneous crap. Maybe if advertisers were limited to a maximum of 5% of page area, it might be acceptable. But I doubt that would ever happen. So I continue with an adblocker.
- KomoD 3y agoIt's not as bad on desktop but wow on mobile browsing without an adblocker is a nightmare
- meowtastic 3y agoI actually have adblocker off on Google because I'm curious who pays for ads :D
