U-Haul admits customers had data stolen in breach
- sammyteee 3y agoLove the post-breach obligtory free year subscription to Experian monitoring...
- toss1 3y ago>>included full names, dates of birth, and driver license numbers, but payment data was not affected. It is likely that it included more than only the driver license numbers, as UHaul requires you to not only give the number, but also takes photos of both sides of the license card. This contains a LOT of data very useful to identity thieves. Providing free Experian monitoring or some such 'compensation' is massively inadequate. We need REAL penalties for companies that leak data, however inadvertently, like $50 to each person leaked. Until companies get the message that PII must be treated as toxic waste, and they either positively destroy it or successfully isolate it, security will remain a mirage.
