The reality is that most people drink less with age and from what I gather it is often because alcohol simply loses its appeal with age.
One guy in some article said that in his youth, getting drunk was a lot of fun with relatively little in the way of negative consequence and now it's a short bit of fun followed by a bad hangover. It's just no longer got the same cost-benefit ratio.
- polishdude20 3y agoI'm 30 and I can't even drink enough to get a hangover because alcohol just makes me so sleepy. I drink maybe 2-3 beers over the course of a whole night and I'm ready to hit the hay around my usual bedtime at 10pm anyways.
- p1esk 3y agoOpposite for me - I drink more and more every year.
- MichaelRo 3y ago>> Opposite for me - I drink more and more every year. Says Plesk, who's now 26, much older than the 16 years old he was when he started drinking. Let us know if you feel the same when you reach 50s.
- p1esk 3y agoI’m 46. The first time I got drunk was when I was 28.

- MichaelRo 3y agoWell good for you! Keep up the good work!!
- DoreenMichele 3y agoI left a comment earlier and deleted it because there is a long history of people being really awful to me for certain kinds of comments that are deemed perfectly acceptable by pretty much anyone but me. And it was some variation of: If you are happy with your drinking, good for you and not my business and I would never tell you that you "should" drink less. If you aren't happy with it, I will suggest it may indicate you have an unidentified medical issue.
- AlexeyBelov 3y agoThe first part of your comment is pretty cringy. Just make a comment, we don't need the story of your life. I've seen you do this in other threads where everything is somehow about you. Very strange.
- MichaelRo 3y agoRight. I never stopped abruptly and at the same time pull some epiphany out of my ass to tell the kids. I still drink on occasion, but occasions are much rarer and I tend to drink less even when I drink a lot. Reason is that the good time of alcohol has shrunk, sometimes I drink a few drinks and think to myself "I don't feel any excitement" then suddenly realize I'm drunk without having experienced much pleasure but now the pain follows. Hangover is much worse, even small amounts of alcohol will give me a headache on their way out of the system. Then real hangovers last two days now, one in a state of "I don't feel like living anymore" and the second day while technically clear of alcohol (like what a blood test would say), I'm feeling very moody and edgy, definitely not my regular self. Not to mention it tends to fire up a pretty bad gastritis so I get acid reflux for days after before managing to calm it down. All in all, the body tells you "not any more".
